Rug Care

Caring for hand-tufted rugs involves regular maintenance and some specific practices to keep them looking their best and extend their lifespan. Here are detailed steps for proper rug care:

Regular Maintenance

  1. Lint Roller: Using a lint roller on a hand-tufted rug is an effective way to remove surface debris, hair, and light dirt, especially in between regular vacuuming.
  2. Vacuuming: Vacuum your rug regularly, at least once a week, to remove dirt and dust. Use a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar to avoid damaging the fibers. If your vacuum has a suction-only setting, use it. Vacuum both sides of the rug periodically.
  3. Shaking: For smaller rugs, take them outside and shake them to remove dust.

Spot Cleaning

  1. Immediate Action: Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub, as this can spread the stain and damage the fibers.
  2. How to: Use a mild detergent mixed with water for most stains. Test the solution on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration. Apply the cleaning solution to the stain using a clean cloth, blotting gently. Work from the outside of the stain towards the center to prevent spreading. Next, dampen a clean cloth with water and blot the area to remove any detergent residue. Finally, blot the area with a dry towel to remove excess moisture. Allow the rug to air dry completely before using it again.

Deep Cleaning

  1. DO NOT MACHINE WASH
  2. Professional Cleaning: Have your hand-tufted rug professionally cleaned every 12-18 months. Choose a cleaner experienced with hand-tufted rugs to avoid damage.

Additional Tips

  1. Avoid Moisture: Keep your rug dry. Avoid placing it in damp areas or using it in a bathroom where it might be exposed to excessive moisture.
  2. Avoid High Traffic Areas: Place your rug in areas of the home that naturally experience less foot traffic, such as bedrooms, home offices, or formal living rooms.
  3. Not Suitable for Outdoors: Hand-tufted rugs are not designed for outdoor use. Exposure to the elements can damage the fibers and backing, leading to a shorter lifespan and diminished appearance.

You can also turn your rug in to wall art, a safe place for your rug.

By following these steps, you can maintain the beauty and durability of your hand-tufted rug for many years.
